Why are Fall Pre Emergents the most important treatments of the year ?
Pre emergents are used to create a long-lasting barrier in the soil that helps stop winter weeds like Poa Annua, Chickweed and Henbit before they ever emerge. Timing is of key importance.
Bermuda and Zoysia Protection
Fall pre-emergent is one of the most important treatments we make for the lawn you’ll see next spring.
We use Specticle® FLO in 2 split applications to create a long-lasting barrier in the soil that helps stop winter annual weeds like Poa Annua, Chickweed and Henbit before they ever emerge.
Proper application timing and rates are key. As soil temperatures begin dropping toward 70°F, winter annual weeds begin their germination cycle, so getting Specticle® FLO down ahead of that window allows us to stay one step ahead. By using split fall applications, we extend that protective barrier through changing temperatures, rainfall and multiple weed-germination periods, giving your lawn stronger, more consistent protection heading into spring.

Round 2 – Specticle® FLO + Simazine
Your round 2 treatment will be performed roughly 6 weeks after our initial application. This mix is a little simpler – the second split application of Specticle® FLO to strengthen the weed barrier, along with Simazine. Simazine provides both pre and post emergent activity. The combination ultimately broadens the overall spectrum of weeds controlled.
Difficulties controlling Poa Annua
Poa Annua is one of the most frustrating winter weeds in Bermuda and Zoysia lawns because its bright green, clumpy growth sticks out dramatically while warm-season turf is dormant. It produces large amounts of seed, allowing it to spread quickly and become an even bigger problem year after year. As temperatures warm, Poa eventually dies off, often leaving behind thin, unsightly areas just as your Bermuda or Zoysia is beginning to green up. Our pre emergent rounds are designed to prevent a Poa Annua infestation next spring.
Associated Costs
Our fall pre emergent rounds (and all treatments) begin at $59/treatment and include up to 4,000 sq. ft. of turf. We offer reduced pricing for large properties.
